The Role of Logistics Businesses in Achieving ASEAN Connectivity 2025
Exactly one year ago at the 30th congress of the ASEAN Federation of Forwarders Association (AFFA), the member countries attendee agreed to jointly play a greater role in the development of the logistics industry, both regionally and globally, especially in ensuring economic recovery due to the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. All AFFA members also agreed to adopt STC (Standard Trading Condition) as a standard reference in running logistics and transportation business in the ASEAN region in order to support ASEAN Connectivity by 2025. Over the past 4 years, AFFAN has played a significant role in the growth of the logistics industry, including in supporting economic activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The problems of the logistics industry during the pandemic are quite concerning. The issue of scarcity of containers, for example, has recently become a hot topic of discussion and is also widely discussed because it is being experienced by countries in Asia, including countries in the ASEAN region. For this reason, larger and more comprehensive efforts are needed to strengthen the logistics industry in achieving ASEAN Connectivity 2025. Nowadays, the logistics industry is a crucial business and has an important role, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The role of global quality logistics service providers is urgently needed to overcome the existing problems. Apart from being reliable and experienced, it is also important to have an integrated logistics service provider, from warehousing, consolidation, freight forwarding, transshipment services, to global logistics managementIntegrated transportation and logistics services are expected to be able to create a faster and more efficient flow of goods, thereby providing benefits for business actors in reducing transportation costs, as well as saving time. All of them can be fulfilled through various transportation management services, warehousing management, bonded logistics center, remote site/supply base services, port management, industrial cargo shipping and also dry bulk logistics.
