The movement that was initiated by the United Nations (UN) globally in 2019 raised the theme of Beat Air Pollution, which is to eliminate air pollution. Mifa also welcomed it by planting 650 trees in the mining area. The tree planting and other series of events were carried out starting June 15 and ending on June 29, 2019 with all Mifa employees, partners, contractors and subcontractors in Meulaboh, Aceh.

"We are very proud to be part of the world to preserve the environment by replanting trees in our mining area that has been reclaimed for the past two years. This campaign is our commitment to the environment by conducting environmental management activities related to the mining process in Meulaboh,” said Mifa Environment Superintendent Aswan Dewangga in Meulaboh, Friday (28/6).

Aswan, who is also the Chair of the Committee for the Series of Commemoration Events of World Environment Day in the Mifa areas, said that the tree distribution activity was an effort to make the environment greener with the aim of reducing air pollution. Thus, the motto "My Sky Blue, My Earth Green" can be realized at any time.

According to him, this activity is also to provide an illustration to local contractors that the success rate of Mifa reclamation is commendable. At present the mining area that has been reclaimed for two years has a tree with a height of around 4-5 meters. "Growing trees in the mine area means increasing oxygen production and reducing the effect of greenhouse gas emissions," Aswan added.

In addition to planting trees, said Aswan, a series of other events included the Enviro Run-FunBike which was held on Sunday (6/23). Aswan explained, activities such as cycling together in the Mifa operation area were still rarely carried out. This event is a medium for actualization as well as promotion in campaigning a healthy lifestyle to the community. In addition to Mifa employees, according to Aswan, the activity also involved the participation of all PT. Mifa Brothers’ partners. The total distance traveled by participants ran approximately 6 kilometers, while the cyclists traveled around 16.5 kilometers

What’s unique about the cycling activity is, he said, "The participants, around 120 people, were cycling while distributing fruit plant seeds along the route. A total of 150 seeds were handed over to the community, consisting of oranges, guavas, mangoes, and so on. "

Mifa Head of Mining Engineering Adi Risfandi explained, besides caring for the environment, this activity was also aimed at raising awareness of the importance of the health of workers in the mining environment. "We also hope that the team bonding between employees, contractors and the surrounding community will be tighter so that it will have a positive impact on their performance and achivements at work,” he explained.

In addition to holding a variety of physical activities, Mifa also held various environmentally-friendly competitions. Starting from the housekeeping contest, poster contest, photography competition, to the creation of plastic waste recycling. By doing plastic waste recycling, it means at the same time they are educating people to care more about plastic waste, starting from the smallest scope, namely their work area.

The series of events will conclude with an Environmental Day Commemoration Ceremony which will take place on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the mine area. Mifa will also invite several Government representatives along with other stakeholders.

"The most important thing in the whole series of events is that PT Mifa continues to show concern for the environment. In accordance with the slogan Mining with Care for Nature, we want Mifa to be a pioneer of mining in Aceh that operates efficiently and complies with regulations, especially its environmental management. So that it can provide optimal benefits to all stakeholders, even the next generation,” Adi concluded.
